Is Your Skin Dry or Dehydrated?

So you think you have dry skin but you’re not 100% sure. Could it be that your skin is just dehydrated? Dry skin is a skin type while dehydrated skin is a skin condition that happens regardless of your skin type.

Here’s how to tell the difference, especially now that most places around the world are experiencing ‘harsh weather conditions’ like harmattan and winter.

Dry Skin

This means your skin doesn’t produce enough sebum to keep it moisturised and skin feels rough and looks flaky. In this case, use any of our Ivory Butters which provide deep nourishment to skin supplement your skin’s natural body oils.

Dehydrated skin

This means there’s not enough water in the outer layer of your skin, and is caused by external factors such as diet, weather, routine and so on. Skin feels tight and itchy, and looks dull.

To test for dehydrated skin, pinch a small portion of your skin and notice if it bounces back or appears wrinkled. If it wrinkles and doesn’t bounce back, then your skin is dehydrated and needs water.

Start with your diet, which should include less alcohol (causes the body to lose water), and more water or water-dense foods such as cucumbers, tomatoes and watermelons. Also carry along a small spray bottle filled with Eden’s Elixir to mist your skin whenever you need a boost of hydration.

Your skin deserves love and care which begins with knowing what it needs at any time.
