The body naturally produces sebum, an oily substance, from its sebaceous glands to protect skin and hair from moisture loss. With oily skin, there’s an overproduction of this sebum which is made obvious by the constant shine on your face, no matter how many times you blot it. Oily skin has enlarged pores, appears shinier and is more prone to acne than other skin types – due to the excess sebum which leads to clogged pores.

Here are some tips to help you keep your skin shine-free for longer.

  1. Use an acne-fighting cleanser: Because oily skin is more prone to acne, you’ll want to use a cleanser like Onyx Polish or Onyx Light. It keeps acne at bay while fading scars left by previous breakouts thanks to its antimicrobial properties.
  2. Add a boost of hydration: You’ll get this from our refreshing and ethereal Eden’s Elixir where rose water and plant extracts such as witch hazel come together to regulate your skin’s sebum by getting rid of anything left over after cleansing.
  3. Try not to skip moisturiser: The fact that your skin is on the oily side doesn’t mean you have to go without moisturising. There are many naturally sourced oils that are absorbed well by all skin types. A few of them are shea nut oil, argan oil and jojoba oil which you’ll find in our Omni Oil. This oil blend is perfect for softening and healing skin, and the bold scent will leave you fearless.
  4. Ease up on the exfoliation: Oily skin basically means too much sebum and what better way to get rid of this excess than by scrubbing it away, but not too hard. That would just clog your pores and have you right back to where you started. 2-3 times a week of gentle exfoliation with Purity Mask is enough to control the oil, leaving you with smooth and healthy skin.
